GASP: Getting There and Getting Around

(Click here to return to the GASP homepage.)

There’s no two ways about it: Atlanta is a terrible place when it comes to getting around. The trains really don’t go anywhere useful outside of the city, and every county has its own bus service. The airport is pretty good, though; don’t believe what you hear — it’s easy to get around and well-organized.

There are four main ways you can get from the Atlanta airport to GASP:

  1. Rent a car — this is probably the most expensive one, but it gives you the freedom to go anywhere you might need to go while you’re at the event.
  2. Rideshare — this will probably cost you $50-$75 each way, not including tip, but the cost can be mitigated if you share your ride with another attendee or two.
  3. Train + Rideshare — this is our recommended method. Take the MARTA red line from the airport to North Springs (the end of the line), and then grab a rideshare. MARTA costs $2.50 each way, and the rideshare will probably cost you $15-$20 each way.
  4. Train + Bus — this is the least expensive method. Take the MARTA red line from the airport to North Springs (the end of the line), and then catch bus 140 or 141 to the Dryden Rd & North Point Pkwy stop (you can also take bus 143, but it is a bit longer of a ride). It’s less than a half-mile walk to the hotel from there.

Once you’re at the hotel, if you want to check out nearby restaurants, they’re less than a half-mile walk to the west (just past the highway) — and there’s a Walgreens too. Wal-Mart is walkable, although we’d recommend a rideshare (or, if the hotel is offering shuttle service, use that). There are also a couple of restaurants to the southeast.

We have a ride sharing channel in our Discord, and also a thread on Fetlife, if you’d like to organize a shared rental car, rideshare, or trip to a restaurant or shop.
